New Horizons launched on January 19th 2006, commencing a decade long journey to the
kuiper belt, beyond the orbit of
Pluto.

As it has reached
Pluto in July 2015, providing the first ever detailed photos of the body that was still a classed planet when New Horizons started its journey.
Following this encounter, in November 2015 it has started the observations of
Kuiper Belt Objects.
New Horizons has eventually crossed the
Solar System following in the footsteps of Voyager 1 and 2, but it will never catch up to them because they are travelling at a higher speed.

The vehicle is powered by a
Plutonium Thermal Generator, a spare unit that was left over from the construction of Cassini.
Expected end of the mission:-2026
In 2038 New Horizons will be 100 AU from the Sun.
