Cassini is the orbiter component of the mission which has been studying the planet, its rings and many of it moons since its arrival.
Cassini is powered by the heat generated from the
Radioactive Decay of "
34kg/70lbs" of plutonium stored in three generators arranged around its base.
Due to spacecraft's ongoing success, Cassini mission has repeatedly been extended. It is now expected to continue gathering data until 2017 at which time it will be ordered to crash into
Saturn.
