ALTHOUGH NOT AS CLOSE TO
Mars as
Phobos, Deimos is still close enough that the moon isn't visible from the polar regions of
Mars due to the body of the planet obscuring the moon in its circular orbit around the equator.

Deimos |
Where Phobos is visible from the Martian surface, the moon appears as little more then a bright star.
Deimos is composed of rock, surrounded by a thick covering of loose dust, and rocks that have partially filled in its craters, giving it a smooth surface. The darkness of its surface combined and its composition give it an appearance similar to an asteroid.
